Forton

The Church is a Grade 2 listed building and is one of the oldest churches in the District dating back to 1707. In 2007 the Church will celebrate 300 years of worship on the same site. Despite it age the Church and its adjacent stable building is in good repair. The congregation is small having 9 members and 3 adherents. There are 2 serving elders. Church meetings are held quarterly.

Inside Forton URC

Worship
  • The morning service takes place at 9.15a.m. in order that the minister can arrive at Garstang in time for morning service there.
  • Rejoice and Sing and Mission Praise are the hymn books used and Good News Bibles are available for all members of the congregation.
  • Communion is celebrated once a month.
  • Special services held during the year include the Good Friday Service in which all other churches in the District are invited and take part. This service has it root deep in the Church history.
  • The members support Christian aid, the Leprosy Mission and the Lancaster Women's Refuge. The latter through the annual Christmas Toy Service.
Ecumenical and other Links
  • The other churches in the area are Methodist, Anglican and Roman Catholic.
  • Each Sunday the Roman Catholics use the church prior to our own Sunday morning worship.
  • The local ecumenical group meets quarterly to organise the various joint ventures, among which are the Remembrance Day Service and the Shrove Tuesday Hoe Down.
  • Ladies of the Church support the local Women's World Day of Prayer.
  • Church leaders and members are involved with local administration and many voluntary organisations.
