Women’s World Day of Prayer
This year the Women’s World Day of Prayer Service will be held at St Helens Churchtown on Friday 6 March at 2.00 p.m. The Service has been written by the Christian women of Papua New Guinea and gives an insight into the faith and life of the people there.
But what do you know about Papua New Guinea? Did you know –
· It comprises 600 islands
· Its capital is Port Moresby
· Its official languages are English, Melanesian, Pidgin and Motu
· There are over 800 other languages spoken
· Its main rivers are the Sepik and the Fly
· 96% of people are Christian
· Its population is 5.8 million
· It has been described as a “mountain of gold floating on a sea of oil”
· It is full of natural resources such as gold silver, copper ore, natural oil and gas
· It covers an area of 178,704 square miles
Come and join us and pray with the women of Papua and women all around the world on 6 March at St Helens Churchtown. Our guest speaker will be Revd Constance Whalley, curate at St Helens.
Every hour for 24 hours there will be this service of prayer somewhere in the world.
Loving and merciful God, God of oneness and unity, though we have different cultures, languages, colours and traditions, we are one in your spirit. Thank you for opening our inner hearts to see the Lord Jesus Christ as the one who has united us. Though we are many members in Christ, we are one body. Amen.
