Baboushka

 

Next Sunday we will be having our annual adult Nativity play This year we shall be telling the story of Baboushka. Come along and join in the singing of well loved carols, see the wise men, and follow Baboushka’s search for the Christ child.

 

Would anyone taking part in the play please stay for a rehearsal after church today.

 

Christmas Hot Pot Lunch

 

After the story of Baboushka everybody is invited to stay for a Christmas Hot Pot Lunch in the Hall. There is no charge for this so please do come along and join us.

The takings for the Fairtrade Stall on 26th November were £36.90. Thank you for your support. The next Fairtrade Stall will be on 28th January 2018.

Special Church Meeting 26th November

 

A special Church Meeting will be held after worship on Sunday, 26th November, to discuss the implications of the proposed implementation of Missional Partnerships. Please read the leaflet provided by Synod and come to the meeting to give your reactions and comments. Dr Michael Pickles, Area Pastoral Committee Secretary, will be coming to the meeting to answer any questions.

Please try to attend so that you can take part in this important consultation process.

 

 

Prayer Handbooks 2018

 

Mary Atkinson is collecting orders for next year’s URC Prayer Handbook and next year’s URC Diary. Please let her know if you wish to order one, or both, of these publications.

 

 

Christmas Greetings in the December Newsletter.

 

If you wish to send greetings examples are given on page 6 of the November Newsletter. You do not need to provide a picture as they are already provided. Your message should have a maximum of 20 words so it fits easily in the boxes. There is a box in the porch into which you can put an anonymous donation in lieu of buying cards. Brenda has extended the deadline for messages until next Sunday, 19th November. You can e-mail (bm.fox@btinternet.com) or phone your greeting (01995 604523) to her, or put it on paper and post it through her door, 12 Derby Road, Garstang, or failing that you can give it to her in person next Sunday.

Christmas Coffee Morning

 

On the 25th November we will be holding our Christmas Coffee Morning which will include a Fair Trade Raffle. (Full details of the Coffee Morning in November's Newsletter)

This Sunday will be the last Fair Trade Stall when you will have an opportunity to buy goods for the raffle.

There will be a box at the end of the table in which your donations can be placed.  Thank you for your support.

Sadly the St Annes and Elswick Advent retreat at Bassenthwaite has had to be cancelled Instead Jim is organising Advent Retreat – version 2!

 

Staycations are all the range now so take time out to relax and reflect on the meaning of Christmas with friends and sleep in your own bed at night.

Women’s Guild

The next Women's Guild meeting will be held tomorrow, Monday 9th October, at St Thomas's Church at 7pm. It is the Annual Women's Ecumenical meeting and ladies from all the churches in Garstang have been invited. Mrs Ann Greenland will talk about a Nurse Training School in Kenya. All ladies are invited.                  Book Fair

Many thanks to everyone who helped with the Book Fair yesterday, whether in the kitchen, clearing tables, taking money or sorting books.

You raised £825, of which £631 came from the sale of books.

Many thanks Crispin.

 

The Book Fair continues on Monday, 10am – 3pm so there is still a chance to buy more books and sample Davida’s wonderful refreshments!

 

Don’t miss the Churches Together Open Air Service, this afternoon, in Cherestanc Square, at 3pm. The theme is ‘Peace and Reconciliation’.

Today, 16th July, our service will be taken by

Chris Lamb. Sally asked him to write a little bit to introduce

himself as he has not been to Garstang before.

This is what he wrote:

 

‘I am married to a Gorgeous redhead who I met whilst serving

with her in the RAF, we have been married for 27 years. We

live in Knott end and have no children but a cat called Casper.

I am currently studying at Luther King House for a theological

degree and work part time as an ISO auditor as well as

working as a H & S Consultant at Rossall School. Part of my

ministry is as a volunteer at Lancaster Farms Prison, I am currently a member of Hamilton URC.’

 

Fairtrade Stall

 

The Fairtrade Stall on 25th June took £48.15. The next

Fairtrade Stall will be on 30th July. Thanks you for your support

Tea and Chat

 

This Wednesday, 2.00pm in the Hall. Everybody welcome.

 

Women's Guild Trip. Tuesday 25 July,

leaving Council Offices at 1.30pm.

 

All welcome to come, both men and women. Cost £8 per

person. We will visit the church of St Leonard the Less at

Samlesbury and then go on to the Brockholes Nature Reserve,

getting back in Garstang around 5.00pm.

put your name on the list if you wish to go.
